AGENT ORANGE is a herbicide used by the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and an estimated 21 million gallons of the chemical were sprayed by planes across the jungles of South Vietnam.
The agent is used to kill weeds and when it was sprayed across the jungles, the agent made the leaves of the trees die and fall off. This made it easier for U.S. fighter planes to shoot down on unsuspecting targets.
What they did not know is that over time, the agent was being consumed by both U.S. troops and all the inhabitants of Vietnam. This exposure resulted in cancer and birth defects in children.
